We express our strongest disapproval of the incident of Stone Pelting, Riots, Violence and Gross Disruption caused to innocent people who were peacefully gathered on Jan 1, 2018 like in the past for several years to pay respect to Brave soldiers at the Shaurya Stambha at Bhima Koregaon, Pune District, Maharashtra, India.

As people of Indian descent in the United States of America, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Oman, etc we showcase our culture and heritage to people from other international communities. This incident has greatly tarnished that image and hurt our sentiments to the core.

Shaurya Stambha and Bhima Koregoan war and its victory symbolize the victory of strength and courage to overcome the injustice, social inequality, inhumane treatment and forceful denial of opportunities to live a respectful and peaceful life. The kind of bravery shown at the Bhima Koregoan war 200 years back, is very peculiar and unique.

Public demonstrations and solidarity protests were carried out in London (UK), Hanover (Germany), Vancouver (Canada), Muscat (Oman), Detroit (Michigan/USA), Boston (Massachusetts/USA), Seattle (Washington/USA), Atlanta(Georgia/USA), New York/New Jersey/Pennsylvania (USA), Chicago (Illinois/USA) with many other cities around the world to follow in coming weeks…..
