Introducing Ambedkar to the Universities and the Colleges in the USA by instituting Dr. Ambedkar chairs.
The great leaders who have fought for the Social Justice in their respective countries are continuing to influence the people beyond their national boundaries. Just to mention a few of those leaders are Dr. Nelson Mandela, Periyar E.V Ramasamy, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., et al.
Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar affectionately known as Babasaheb, an Indian revolutionary leader, was born on April 14th, 1891 entered into active public life in 1919 when he was 28 years old and reminded active in public life till his death in 1956. During these 37 years of his public life, he observed several roles as scholar, teacher, lawyer/attorney, parliamentarian, administrator, journalist, publicist, negotiator, agitator, and a leader. He relentlessly worked and sacrificed his entire life to build a society based on liberty, fraternity, and equality.
Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar has written several books and widely commented and spoken on a range of issues such as social justice, economics, sociology, anthropology, religion, constitutionalism, public administration, nationalism, and et al. The government of Maharashtra, India which has began to compile his work in 1979 and by 1990 some his most important works available as books to the masses. So far 17 volumes of his works are available and yet to compile remaining huge collection of his works. Such compilations have made the tremendous influence on Dalit movements across India.
It’s insane for one to conclude that it’s very unfortunate that Dr. Ambedkar’s writings and works have been NOT introduced to the Indian academia but rather it’s a purposeful act of the Indian ruling class NOT to popularize Dr. Ambedkar to the Indian people. The situation got changed post 1990s when Dalit movements across India have become a force to be reckoned which started influencing the academia to engage with Dr. Ambedkar seriously. However, they are far from being realized completely.
Columbia University, New York, the USA, alma mater of Dr. Ambedkar has instituted a constitutional chair in 2010.
The oppressed across the national boundaries to learn from each other to wage a strong and determined struggle for social justice. In such backdrop, this conference resolute to take Dr. Ambedkar to the Universities and Colleges in the United States of America to engage the students and academia in his ideas to build a world based on liberty, equality, and fraternity. Also this conference resolute to reach the Indian government to sponsor for institute chairs for Dr. Ambedkar studies in the American universities.
